I have two thoughts about domains somebody might be able to shed some light on.

1. I want to transfer a domain to another account but the website is hosted with a different company. Is there any risk when I transfer the domain that the website will have any problems due the transfer of the domain?

2. Let's say I buy a domain name that has been expired will the domain names PR still be valid or do I start from scratch with the domain.

Permissions w/ Ubuntu Server 9.10 using SFTP (WinSCP3) 18 weeks 6 days ago

I recently installed a copy of Ubuntu Server 9.10 and I'm trying to get the SSH / SFTP to work as it should. Currently, whenever I try to delete a file or folder I receive the following error message:

Permission denied.
Error code 3.
Error message from server: Permission denied
Request code: 13

This has to do with my installation of SSH on the Linux box but I'm unsure as to what I've done wrong. I'm no longer at home (I'm in the office now) and still, it's not letting me do things with the files. It's strange because I can log into the server using WinSCP3 just like any other time I log into a server, but when I try to do anything to the files or folders, I get rejected...

Not able to download big files but can upload 19 weeks 6 days ago

Hi,
In have a Apache server with MySQL/PHP running on a Windows machine (Quad Core, 4Gb RAM). I have SSL enabled as well.

I can upload a 150Mb file without any issues. Now, if I use a Filemanager to download the files here is that happens:

Files of upto 20Mb work great after that they do not downlaod. For example, if I try a 150Mb file, I get prompted to download the file but it just saves a 0K file.

I have a local WAMPS server which I use to develop and without SSL everything works OK. I have not re-created locally with SSL.

July Challenge and Retrospective – Tux Time 9 weeks 2 days ago

This month my challenge will be to use Ubuntu on my new home machine “Angelus”. I have been a heavy Linux user in the past, but evil corporations have forced me to use Windows over the last years.
While vogella.de runs on Ubuntu the server and does not require frequent changes and therefore my Linux bash skills are getting a bit rusty. I also want to make use of find, grep, awk and the like and cywin it just not the same thing.
Also all the cool things (Git, compile OpenJDK, compile Android, …) runs easily on Ubuntu. So lets see if I manage to go back to the real thing.

Using awk, grep, sed, and mysqldump to script and backup your MySQL databases on the command line 1 week 4 days ago

In this tutorial, I'll show how you can use awk, grep, and sed (my favorite command line tools) to backup and archive your MySQL databases. This can be useful to schedule a cron job, transfer your databases to another server, or any other type of scripting.
First, you'll have to get acquainted with connecting to and dumping your database on the command line. Depending on your user, credentials, and where the databases are located, your command might look something like this. Please note, there is no space between the password and the "-p" flag.
$ mysqldump -u user -pPASSWORD -h hostname database > database.sql
To simplify my example, I'm going to shorten the mysqldump command to the follow.
$ mysqldump database > database.sql
